Conditions of the Incumbency Term Term: 3 years with probable extension thereafter. Potential applicants should note that the Scottish Episcopal Church specifies the retiring age as 65. Stipend: £17,628 (Provincial standard rate for 2003). Allowances:
Previous experience: It is considered that the post would best suit someone with a varied experience of ministry and life who would relish the challenge of taking St Mary's forward into the future Memorandum of Agreement: In Scotland as elsewhere clerics are not legally regarded as employees of their congregation so no contract of employment is available. The appointee will therefore be asked to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Vestry. The details of this will be subject to negotiation after appointment has been offered and accepted in principle. Besides specifying the basic duties of ministry our agreement with the Rev. Nigel Pounde covered duties at St Serf's Eventide Home (please see profile), promoting partnership through the Vestry, length of the working week, leave, stipend, accommodation, expenses, congregational self-review, and professional development through annual appraisal. Disclosure: The successful applicant will be required to apply for a Disclosure (Criminal Record Check) and the content of the Disclosure will need to satisfy the Provincial Child Protection Officer of the Scottish Episcopal Church before the appointment is confirmed. It should be noted in this connection that the Incumbent will play a key role in ensuring that St Mary's continues to comply with provincial policies on child protection. Other information The Province: Applicants from outwith Scotland are respectfully reminded that the Scottish Episcopal Church is an independent province of the Anglican Communion with its own traditions and code of canons. In Scotland the Church of Scotland is the established church. The Diocese: The diocesan office is located at 28a Balhousie Street, Perth PH1 5HJ; e-mail office@standrews.anglican.org; telephone +44(0)1738-443173. The Bishop is the Right Reverend Michael Henley. The Bishop and Vestry are joint Patrons of the charge. Constitution: The constitution of the charge was last revised in 2001. Although it broadly follows the current and earlier provincial models, applicants from Scotland should note that it differs from these models in several significant respects, most notably giving explicit recognition to the role of elected Vestry members as congregational trustees in conformity with accepted practice in the wider voluntary sector, and enabling the trustees to promote the objects of the charge through a partnership with the Incumbent. Applications Candidates should send their letter of application to the Convenor of the Vacancy Committee: Dr H A P
Ingram The letter should be accompanied by an up-to-date curriculum vitae and by full communication details for the candidate and three referees, at least one of whom should be a lay person. Application may be made by e-mail provided any attachments are sent in rich-text format. Closing
